Nature of Consumer Behaviour - Free Essay Example

Paper Consumer Behaviour Introduction Razor Gaming is as stated a company who specialises in gaming. Having their own gaming gear and generally target gamers. They targeted audience is mostly the PC environment, so gaming laptops, tablets and desktops. The products that they sell are mice, keyboards, mouse mats and game pads. The Razor products are all named after predatory or venomous animals. Razor was founded in 2005 in San Diego, California US. Its founders were Min-Liang Tan(now the CEO and creative director) and Robert Krakoff(Now President), after securing a huge investment from Hong Kong. It has its headquarters in both Singapore and San Francisco, California. In this paper I will be talking about how they use marketing in a consumers behaviour point of view. Brand Image Razer Gaming their slogan is for gamers by gamers. They sell professional gamers gear for gaming only. They tend to manufacture product that is intended for professional gamers. Razer are trying to be the Apple of the gaming industry by premium priced products. Razer uses their core expertise to leave a mark on that industry. Their products are utilitarian and value expressed. The gaming are intended for gaming and using their products. It can also be classified as hedonic, because casual gamers buy these products for their hobby. As games are classified as hedonic. Although in the professional scene such as in eSports and Twitch streamers these products become utilitarian. Their consumers have their reasons why they buy their product. As we go through the consumer value frame work. The internal influences are off course personality, which the attitude towards the product is important. Knowledge is in an important factor in the attitude formation. Gamers need to know about the product. In the ABC-model. The two important factors are especially affective and cogitative. Razer is a cool product and its gives them an advantage to users who use don’t have decent gaming gear. Casual gamers have an experimental hierarchy because its intended for hedonic use. For professional users it’s the standard learning hierarchy. Professional gamers get for example sponsored by razer and get a mouse for free. They start using it and see that the quality is actually great and will keep buying razer products. That is also why razer started growing. For The external factors; video gaming is a culture on its own more than 155 americans play video games, 4 out of 5 households have atleast one gaming device. 42 percent play each week more than 3 hours. In the early days of gaming mostly teens were playing video game. Nowadays the average player is around 35 years. The first generation who grew u with gaming is maturing and its not only teenagers who play games. Also the social aspect plays an important factor. The gamers are a aspirational group. They associate themselves as gamers and use razer product to identify themselves as gamers. This can be a reaction to peer pressuring(streamers who are mostly the same age as them). Razer also have their own media where they can advertise their products on. But they mostly get their brand image from earned media(twitch, YouTube, esports). Razer has an ethos appeal to it. The main gamers are mostly men, the logo of razer has 3 snakes and a green colour. Green is has a big appeal to men, since it one of the more likeable color for both men and woman. The three snakes is a big part of the brand’s image. Razer is known to deliver high-end product thus its trustworthy. The logo is attractive and has a high level of likeability. The consumer builds a perception about razer based on its image as the world leading brand in gaming gear. It enforces by superior quality to the competition. The comfort of the using razer headsets is the best in its expertise. While the perception of the consumers starts to develop, the identity of the brand will be branded in to the heads of consumers. We can use Maslov’s pyramid in to consideration because of how they advertise their product use the gaming culture so gamers can associate. The functional elements of the products what does it do? It enhances the gaming experience by giving their consumers a big advantage over other gamers. Moving up the pyramid we have the emotion element. How does it make me feel. Do I as a gamer like this product am I happy about the product. After we achieved these elements we can say did it change my life. The gamer did improve and can take out enemies much faster or do objectives more efficiently. And at last does razer let me identify in a certain group of gamers. That is pretty much the objective of razer the ability to feel connected to a social group. This is the pathos appeal having an emotional connection to the product. Advertising Razer Gaming advertises their products on a different way than other brands. They use the raze affiliate program. Its is a way of gamers earning small commissions by placing banners or on their website to refer them to the shop of razer. Once the visitor of the site makes a purchase through these banners or links they can earn money. It is completely free of charge to join the program. These commissions are paid on a monthly net sales. As I already stated earlier in the paper. They also advertise by using famous youtubers to unbox and talk about the product. Famous youtuber TheSyndicateProject started getting sponsored by razer and receiving free and latest stuff. All he has to do is talk about the product and talk about the product. Also the channel that I mentioned earlier dedicated unboxing videos about the product he got from razer. The youtuber in particular has now 10 million subscribers and got a huge reach thru the gaming industry. Another method is sponsoring Twitch streamers. Giving them a headset and mouse and all they have to do is putting a banner on their stream or talk about it when they start the stream. For example this stream was made possible by razer gaming. These kinds of endorsements by â€Å"celebrities† have an Ethos appeal. The attractiveness of the brand. Also they sponsor big Esports event which will also raise the brand awareness. There are huge events like E3 or GameForce in Belgium where they will try and interact with future customers. This is more of an (Banks, 2018) ethos kind of feel where they try to convince gamers to buy their product. They will try to convince them by letting them use their products on high-end computer where you actually can feel the difference. You will feel that the gear is trustworthy. It also enhances the psychogenic needs. They play more on ambition(becoming a better gamer), power(dominating the games you play) affections(the product will start to grow on the consumer) and information(giving more explanation). Disadvantage Due to the premium pricing of razer products it can scare of consumers. Why buy razer product when you can game on a regular keyboard or mouse. The fear of missing out is a big issue. Not every one can afford razer products. The fear factor is big disadvantage for razer. Razer is all social when peer pressuring come to a degree that people have to buy overpriced products when you have a substitute for it. Conclusion Razer is premium priced product, it has a big social influence. The product itself is already of big quality but the social factor and the peer-pressuring is a big asset of the brand. While razer is the leading gaming gear manufacturer they will keep the consumers reviews in mind.

Using the Latin Intensive Pronoun Ipse (Self)

When learning Latin, intensive pronouns function much as they do in English, intensifying the action or the noun they modify. For example, in English, we might say, The experts themselves say so. The intensive pronoun themselves  intensifies the noun experts, with the implication that if the emphasized experts say so, it must be correct. The intensive pronoun in the following Latin sentence,  Antonius  ipse  me laudavit,  means Anthony himself praised me. In both Latin ipse and English himself, the pronoun intensifies or emphasizes the noun. Ipso Facto The expression ipso facto is the best-known remnant in English of the Latin intensive pronoun. In Latin,  ipso  is masculine and in agreement with facto. Its in the ablative case (ablative indicates that a thing or person is being used as an instrument or tool by another and is translated as by or by means of). Thus ipso facto means by that very fact or act; as an inevitable result. A Few Rules There are a few generalizations we can make about Latin intensive pronouns: They intensify (thus, their name) the function or the noun they modify.Latin intensive pronouns  typically translate as the English -self pronouns: myself, yourself, herself, himself, itself in the singular and ourselves, yourselves and themselves in the plural.  But they  can also translate in English as the very... as in  femina ipsa...  (the very woman as an alternative to the woman herself).Latin intensive pronouns double as adjectives  and take the same form when doing so.   Intensive vs. Reflexive Intensive pronouns are often confused with Latin reflexive pronouns, but the two types of pronouns  have different functions. Latin reflexive pronouns  and adjectives (suus, sua, suum) show possession and translate as his or her own, its own, and their own. The reflexive pronoun must agree with the noun it describes in gender, number, and case, and the pronoun always refers back to the subject. Intensives emphasize other words besides the subject. This means that reflexive pronouns can never be nominative. Intensive pronouns, on the other hand, do not indicate possession. They intensify and they can be any case, including nominative. For example: Intensive pronoun:  Praefectus honores civibus ipsis dedit.  (The prefect bestowed/gave honors on/to the citizens themselves.)Reflexive pronoun:  Praefectus honores sibi dedit.  (The prefect bestowed/gave honors on/to himself.) Declension of Latin Intensive Pronouns   Singular (by case and gender: masculine, feminine, neuter) Nominative:  ipse, ipsa, ipsumGenitive:  ipsius, ipsius, ipsiusDative:  ipsi, ipsi, ipsiAccusative:  ipsum, ipsam, ipsumAblative:  ipso, ipsa, ipso Plural (by case and gender: masculine, feminine, neuter) Nominative: ipsi, ipsae, ipsaGenitive: ipsorum, ipsarum, ipsorumDative: ipsis, ipsis, ipsisAccusative: ipsos, ipsas, ipsaAblative: ipsis, ipsis, ipsis

Hunger of Memory by Richard Rodriguez Book Critique

The following review of Richard Rodriguez’s book titled â€Å"Hunger of Memory,† shows the author’s smart way of writing an autobiography. The book is conformed in six well explained essays of Rodriguez’s life placed together, all in order to show the reader the different outcomes during his life as a middle class Mexican-American. The author wrote this autobiography on 1982, in where he explains the moments that he and his family went by during their immigration inside the United States. Richard Rodriguez started attending a Roman Catholic elementary school with a simple knowledge of the English language. Due to the fact he did not know much English; he was not very confident in class and had a very shy personality inside the classroom. During his trajectory in elementary school, he was more into learning the language because of an advice of a nun from his school that when to talk with Richard’s parents. Even though Rodriguez did started to learn t he language as time passed by he felt that his Mexican culture that brought his family so close once before was being lost as more and more Americanized his family seemed to become. Essay about Factors That Influence Gender Identity

Identity is most simply defined as a persons own sense of self; their personal sense of who they are. Identity development is intrinsically linked with adolescence because, according to Santrock citing Marcia Carpendale, ...for the first time, physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development advance to the point at which the individual can sort through and synthesize childhood identities and identifications to construct a viable path toward adult maturity. We often see the results of this sorting process in behaviors of adolescents such as adopting and shedding different personas including speech patterns, clothing styles and peer groups. Although these transitions often seem drastic and swift, adolescents are utilizing their†¦show more content†¦Although identity is highly personal and we conceive of it being built from internal processes like temperament and personality, societal factors such as family and gender also contribute significantly to its formation. James M arcia confronts familial influence in his second Status of Identity, identity foreclosure. In this status Marcia describes a commitment that an adolescent has integrated into their identity yet they have had no identity crisis, therefore have not explored alternate or even conflicting options before making the commitment. A commitment like this is almost always attributable to familial influence. For example, perhaps fifteen year old Cady identifies as a protestant Christian. Her identification is conveyed by her personal thoughts and discussions with others about Christ being her savior, as well as her behavior patterns of attending church frequently and implementing Christian doctrine into her daily behaviors (turning the other cheek when wronged etc.). However, Cadys parents are both protestant Christians as well and have attempted to actively instill their beliefs and practices within their daughter. Annual Reports Are An Outdated Mode Of Informing Users Of A Company

Question: Discuss about the Annual Reports Are An Outdated Mode Of Informing Users Regarding The Activities Of A Company. Answer: The essay revolves around the discussion provided in the article relating to the usefulness of the annual report. Further, own reviews have been given regarding the same study. The primary emphasis has been made on revealing the poor quality of pastaccounting information provided in financial statements by restating the information of previous years. It has been observed in many of the firms in China, that companies have maintained their profits below the line through inappropriate recognising loss and encouraging survival rather than supporting refinancing goals (Wang Xia and Wu Min, 2011). Further, it has also been assessed that investors have started taking a decision relating to companies on the basis of information provided in current year rather than reflecting the concurrently the financial reporting of past years. Efficient capital markets reward high-quality financial reporting which facilitates appropriate allocation of corporate capital and provide assistance in decision m aking for investors. The changes were further made in the financial statements and corrected later; the same impact on the profit and loss of stock market as well as concern towards the information provided in the financial statements. It was analysed in the research by U.S. that after restating the figures in the financial statement; investors relied less on the data available in the annual report and it also affected the creditability of a firms future financial reports (Hope, Thomas and Vyas, 2013). An effort has been made, to explain the impact on the financial statement in case the figures are corrected in a current year financial statement and not in a previous year financial statement in the report (Ghazali, 2011). It is because; the overall cumulative effect would be adjusted to the opening balance of retained earnings and another account which are affected due to same. By way of GAAP and IFRS require specifying relating to restatement rather than earning restatement. It is also analysed thatacco unting standard requires detail explanation regarding the reason of restatement of figures but a small quote has been provided in the footnotes regarding them in financial statements (Lys, Naughton Wang, 2015). The research in China has majorly emphasised on earning management which is related to restatement issue. Many organisations manage accrualaccounting in order to boost up their earnings during the process of financial packaging (Wang Xia and Wu Min, 2011). Further, it has also been observed that capital resources might have appropriately allocated in case management of earning would have examined more carefully. Analysis has also been made in the report regarding the level of information available in the annual report in case of listed companies. An effective effort has been made to design and implement financial regulation relating to transparency in the information accessible in the financial statements (Weil, Schipper, and Francis, 2013). It is because; Vietnamese authorities took an initiate to improve the manner of providing information in the financial statements through specifically providing detail disclosure. The same step provides assistance to the investors to understand the affairs of the company in a more appropriate manner which resulted in the reduction in existing gap between management and investors (Crowther, 2016). The same resulted in providing useful information for the State agencies to in assessing, reviewing and developing disclosure requirement in future. An approach relating to making an alteration in the produce items which is a reliable and appropriate measure for determining the disclosure level in a particular research environment (Alzarouni, Aljifri and Tahir, 2011). A study regarding the relationship between corporate governance and voluntary disclosure in the annual report has also been provided in the report. As the principles of corporate governance are based on the objectives of OECD, and thus the focus was made on developing the disclosure index. The report depicts that the data available in the annual report is dependent on the subjective items in case of independent research. Further, the analysis is done on the basis of previous researches which are relating to provisions of state and corporate governance principles of OECD for the purpose of developing an index for the research (Hope, Thomas and Vyas, 2013). The analysis has been made by considering self-constructed index, but in case the content of index is different; the possibility exists that result might be differentiated. Further, an attempt is made to provide importance on the disclosures which have been contained in the annual report. Usefulness of financial report has been analysed for examining whether current practices satisfied by the disclosure policies specifically in UAE. In this report, an effort has been made to ascertain the extent to which the users are satisfied with these disclosures that are available in financial statements (Elliott, Fanning Peecher, 2016). Further, for exploring whether the requirements of the users have been fulfilled with the information which has been provided in the disclosure. It has been analysed that through taking a survey of several companies of UAE; and the result which was indicated were also appropriate as a maximum of enterprises provided information in the annual report (Alzarouni, Aljifri, K., and Tahir, 2011). The main issue which was faced by the investor that delays in information in the availability of annual report and non-accessibility of financial reports. It is because; information provided in annual report generally contains historical financial facts which are not viable for making future decisions on a rational basis. The external and internal factors which assess the decision of an investor are evaluated properly for ascertaining the manner in which they impact their behaviour (Baker and Haslem, 2015). Consequently, the solely annual report does not make sense to stakeholders due to which they are required information from other sources as well. However, these issues are coped up companies by adding facts and figures about their future financial plans and performance so better forecasting can be done by stakeholders. In addition to this, companies are bound to provide interim reports to cover the gap of a financial year. With this report, stakeholders are able to get information on the ongoing performance of the company to collect viable facts for decision making (Weil, Schipper, and Francis, 2013). The viability of annual reports is continuously enhancing by applying ethics and governance of corporate reporting to ensure that stakeholders are able to assess accurate information in a timely manner for making rational decisions in their interest (Hope, Thomas and Vyas, 2013). However, this not resolve entire issues related to annual reports but professional accounting bodies are doing their best to cope with the existing issues by providing reliable solutions to stakeholders. Financial statements are used to evaluate the key facts relating to performance and disposition of business and thus have a significant influence the decision. Financial statements are the key component in making investment decisions. It can be concluded that all the journal has emphasised on the manner in which the in which accounting policies and disclosures affect the decision of an investor relating to the amount of investment and value of shares of a particular company. Further, it can be said that the information available in the annual report is usable only in case accounting policies has been appropriately followed, and the necessary required information for the investors have been provided in an appropriate manner. It depends on the individual company; but as it is compulsory for listed companies to follow accounting standards and to make appropriate disclosure thus the same ensure the investors that relevant and reliable information has been provided to them. Christmas Traditions Explained for ESL Class

Christmas Traditions Explained for ESL Class Christmas is one of the most important holidays in the English speaking world. There are many Christmas traditions in these countries. The traditions are both religious and secular in nature. Here is a short guide to the most common Christmas traditions. What Does the Word Christmas Mean? The word Christmas is taken from Christs Mass or, in the original Latin, Cristes maesse. Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus on this day. Is Christmas Only a Religious Holiday? Certainly, for practicing Christians around the world, Christmas is one the most important holiday of the year. However, in modern times, traditional Christmas festivities have become much less related to the Christ story. Examples of these other traditions include Santa Claus, Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer, and others. Why Is Christmas so Important? There are two reasons: 1. There are approximately 1.8 billion Christians in a total world population of 5.5 billion, making it the largest religion worldwide. 2. And, some think more importantly, Christmas is the most important shopping event of the year. It is claimed that up to 70 percent of many merchants annual revenue is made during the Christmas season. It is interesting to note that this emphasis on spending is relatively modern. Christmas was a relatively quiet holiday in the USA until the 1860s. Why Do People Give Gifts on Christmas Day? This tradition most probably is based on the story of the three wise men (the Magi) giving gifts of gold, incense, and myrrh following the birth of Jesus. However, it is important to note that gift giving has only become popular in the last 100 years as figures such as Santa Claus have come to be more important, and emphasis has been shifted to giving gifts to children. Why Is There a Christmas Tree? This tradition was begun in Germany. German immigrants moving to England and the USA brought this popular tradition with them and it has since become a much-loved tradition for all. Where Does the Nativity Scene Come From? The Nativity Scene is accredited to Saint Francis of Assissi in order to teach people about the Christmas story. Nativity Scenes are popular around the world, especially in Naples, Italy that is famous for its beautiful Nativity Scenes. Is Santa Claus Really St. Nicholas? Modern day Santa Claus has very little to do with St. Nicholas, though there are certainly similarities in the style of dressing. Today, Santa Claus is all about the presents, whereas St. Nicholas was a Catholic saint. Apparently, the story Twas the Night before Christmas  has a lot to do with changing St. Nick into modern day Santa Claus. Christmas Traditions Exercises Teachers can use this Christmas traditions reading in class to help start a conversation on how Christmas traditions are different around the world, and whether traditions have changed in their own countries.

The Clinical Issue of Patient Handover Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

The Clinical Issue of Patient Handover - Essay Example (2007). Patient-Centered Perspectives on Communication and Handover between the Emergency Department and General Internal Medicine. At the end of the introduction, the author is trying to tell us that errors in caregiving can have side effects. The methods used are listed in a separate section as follow up questions, where they are exposed importantly. The method of focus groups is compatible with the naturalistic paradigm of qualitative research. The research direction is used, though not mentioned in the introduction. It would be justified to assume a lack of flow in the research in connection with the absence of such necessary information in a research paper. The research addresses the following questions: What are the procedures for patients hand over? Who is responsible for the recording and paperwork of the process? How private is the handed over information about the patient? Are there legal practices that are observed? In the introduction to the literature review, the author shows that previous studies have shown that the reduction of staff may increase the adverse effects for the patient. The topics include personnel expenses, the food, the risk of malnutrition, the benefits of walking and problems after discharge. Items and results are described and presented in a logical and organized manner. The results that were missing in the questions follow the framework of the education and training Studies. There are no items included as a visual aid to complete the research findings. The materials used are mainly nursing journals and other primary sources. Numerous topics including creation of  a stable framework for this study. A research gap was identified for nursing as a career field. The author shows the need for further studies in this area. The data collection procedures are clearly indicated in the section on the data analysis, and other researchers could easily replicate it. Topics and results are described and presented in a logical and

The advantages and disadvantages Essay Example for Free

The advantages and disadvantages Essay The difference it will make is that it will not have colour and will only be in black writing. It is good for beginners to practice typing. You can not put in pictures or borders. It takes very little memory. It is not a good application for professionals. Microsoft Access Open Office Base It is the same but the steps of doing things are totally different. It is very fast and reliable. It is rare so if you need help then you are less likely to get help. If I used it then I can do my work faster because it is very easy to use. It is similar to Microsoft Access so it is easy to use. It has much less features than Microsoft Access. It is easy and straight forward. It takes up a lot of memory. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Mozilla Firefox It works almost the same but it is faster. Mozilla Firefox is faster than Microsoft Internet Explorer 7. It takes quite a bit of time to download from internet. The difference it will make if I used it is that I will be safer on the web. It is good because it has security which stops viruses and hackers. You have to pay for it because it does not come free. You can get information, play games and email really fast. It is a bit advanced so it may be hard to use for some users. Paint Adobe Photoshop It works almost the same as paint. You are able to change the colour of the picture. The images take up a lot of hard disk memory. The difference it will make is that I will be able to draw more accurate images than paint. It has more options and tools than paint. It does not come with the computer; you will have to buy it. You can also make changes in photos etc. It is a bit hard to use, so experienced people can use it. Microsoft Word Microsoft Access Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Paint Input An input device is that hardware which allows you to put data into the computer. The main input devices I have used are keyboard, mouse and scanner. Device Speed Errors that can be made Way to correct errors Keyboard The keyboard does not have a set amount of speed it all depends how fast the typist is typing. The speed is calculated in Words Per Minute (WPM). The errors which can be made are that you can type in a word by mistake or do spelling mistakes. If you have typed a word wrong then you have to press back space or if it is a spelling mistake then put the spell check on which underlines the mistake in red. It then gives you a list of words to correct to. Mouse The speed of the mouse actually depends on how fast you move the mouse. You may click on icon which you did not want to press. You have to press back or if t has opened an application then exit it. Scanner The speed of the scanner depends on how powerful the scanner is. The more powerful the faster. Latest models will have more power. You might want to see what goes on in scanner and will lift the lid up. You have to wait till the scanning finishes then you have to repeat it all over again. Keyboard The way I detected my errors is that I checked my work twice. The way I corrected my errors is that I clicked the underlined words and chose a suitable word from the list. Spelling mistakes are underlined in red like this and grammatical mistakes are underlined in green like this. If there was none suitable then I would re-type the correct word. Thereafter I gave it to friend for proof reading. Mouse The way I detected the errors is that when I went on an unwanted page. The way I corrected it is that I simply went back. To prevent such errors; I done my work slowly. If I was on the internet and I made a mistake then I would click the button called BACK which is on the top left corner. Scanner After the image was been scanned, I checked if there were any mistakes in the digital image. If there were any then I restarted the scanning. The way I prevented these errors was that before scanning I made sure that the page was the right way round and having no creases on the paper. Effects of Inaccurate Data Inaccurate data will affect the system by mainly consuming time and causing problems for customers. Data Effect Way it can be prevented Name spelt incorrectly If the name is spelt incorrectly then when the tickets reach the person and the name does not match the name on the passport then the person can not go abroad. The way it can be prevented is that tell the customer to repeat it twice. Also tell the customer to say it in phonetics. And lastly, confirm before putting the phone down. Address not correct, such as postcode If the address or the postcode is not correct then letters may not reach the person and go elsewhere. The way it can be prevented is that tell the customer to repeat it twice. Also confirm before putting the phone down. For the postcode I shall also keep an input mask which is LL0\ 0LL. Recommendations not checked correctly If the recommendation is not checked correctly then customers may not get the offers which they have the right to get. The way it can be prevented is that make sure that the recommendation is there and recheck it at a later stage. Gender not entered correctly If the gender is not entered correctly then a staff could put a customer to shame if it is said wrong over the phone. The way it can be prevented is that tell the customer to repeat it twice. Also confirm before putting the phone down. Also I will make sure that nothing other than male or female is entered into the gender. I will do this by entering a validation rule and validation text. This means that every time something is typed wrong in that field than it will not be valid and then a message will come up say what to do. Date of birth not entered in correct format If the date of birth of birth is not entered in the correct format then part of the database could go wrong and it would also cause problems to the customers if it is in the wrong format on tickets and letters. The way it can be prevented is that keep a strict format that all the staff could stick to. Also recheck if it is entered according to the format. And if talking to the customer over the phone then ask which format it is. For example; DD/MM/YY or MM/DD/YY or YY/DD/MM. I have also thought of having a set format for the date of birth. To maintain this I shall have an input mask which is 00/00/0000;0;; Subscriptions not entered in correct format If the subscription is not entered in the correct format then the subscription could go on and on for ever if the expiry date is not entered correctly. The way it can be prevented is that recheck if the date is there and it is entered correctly with the correct format. For this also I will have a set format and to maintain this I will an input mask which is 00/00/0000; 0;; I think that the overall best method of checking the accuracy of the data is that it is rechecked and confirmed. Also I would prefer having an input mask where possible in places like date of birth and post code. Validation It is very important that you have correct and accurate data or else this could lead to many major problems. Validation is a very good way to ensure that you have the correct data. Validation is when the computer itself automatically checks the work and makes sure that the data entered is reasonable but it does not check the accuracy. The main aim of validation is that it makes sure that the data entered is reasonable, allowable and sensible. For example; if you typed in the date of birth of a secondary school student then it is likely to be between 1988 and 1995. If 1955 was entered then it would definitely be wrong and the computer will not accept. This is making sure that the data is reasonable. If Sams date of birth is 1992 and 1989 was typed then it will be still accepted but the data is not true. This is not checking the accuracy of the data. The following are a few methods of validation: 1. Presence check This checks that data has been entered into a field. An example of this method is; * In most databases a key field can not be left empty. 2. Check digit The last one or two digits in a code are used to check if all the other digits are correct. An example of this method is; Â  In shops and super markets, barcode readers use check digits. 3. Type check This checks that of a certain type is entered into a field. An example of this method is; In a clothes shop, dress sizes may range from 8 to 18. For this type of data, a number data type would be suitable. If the data type is set as number then only numbers could be entered and a person will be prevented form typing in letters and words. If size ten or eleven was entered, then it would be rejected and 10 or 11 would need to be entered. 4. Format check This checks if data is in the correct format. An example of this method is; Â  A National Insurance number is in the form LL 99 99 99 L. In which L is any letter and9 is any number. 5. Spell check This looks up words in a dictionary. An example of this method is; Â  When word processing. 6. Length check This checks that the data entered is not too long or too short. An example of this method is; A password which needs to be six characters long. 7. Range check This checks that a value fall within the specified range. An example of this method is; Number of hours worked must be no more than 50 hours and more than 0 hours. 8. Look up table This looks up acceptable values in a table. An example of this method is; Â  There are only seven possible days in a week. Verification Verification is to check if the data meets the required standards. For example; if a password is created, then you have to verify by typing it a second time to see if they both match. If the passwords did not match each other then the computer does not allow him to go through because the required standard is that the passwords must match each other and must be typed in correctly. The following are a few methods of verification: 1. Re-typing the data Re-typing the data could get rid of a lot of mistakes. This method is only ideal for small amounts of data such as passwords. However, also in small amounts of data there is also a problem which is that the mistake could be repeated in the second piece of data and this does not pick up the mistake. The reason why it is not ideal for large amounts of data is for three main reasons. They are as follows; You would end up with two copies of the data Mistakes which are repeated will not get picked up. Â  It would be time consuming to re-type large amounts of data. 2. Checking the data on the screen with the original paper document This method saves having to re-type the data. It can help where in data has been transposed or entered incorrectly. However, it is not easy and can get tough trying to move your eyes back and forth paper copy and monitor. 3. Printing out a copy of the data and then comparing it with the original copy. This is probably the easiest method because you bath copies side by side and you can check for mistakes. However, this method can also become time consuming if large amounts of data have to be checked. Also if you go too quick the mistakes could be left. Output Output device allow you to view information after it has been processed. Device Type The way it works Advantages Disadvantages Best place to use it Printer Laser In laser printers powdered ink is fused on to paper by heat and pressure. They use toners instead of cartridges. They produce a very high quality of output. Laser printers are very expensive to buy. The best place to us it is in a library or any study area because they are very quiet and fast. Laser printers are very quiet and do not disturb. Toners are used instead of cartridges this means that there may be extra costs. Hundreds of pages could be printed within an hour. They are very huge so if there are any breakdowns then repairs could be very costly. Inkjet Inkjet printers work by heating ink as it flows through small nozzles. It then creates a dot on the paper and keeps happening until a picture forms. Ink is stored in cartridges. It is quite fast but not faster than Laser printers. The quality of colour printing is very low. The best place to use it is in your house because it is cheap and it is worth the price. Print outs are very neat compared to other print outs. Print out may come out wet and this may smudge. Nozzles are much cheaper than toners. Inkjet printers are very noisy. Dot-matrix Dot-matrix printers work by using a set of steel pins which strike an inked ribbon onto paper producing a sequence of dots. Dot-matrix printers are cheap to buy. They are very noisy and disturbing. The best place to use it would be something like a factory because they make a lot of noise and in a factory printers are used very less. It is very cheap to operate. They are very slow and take ages. They are not very hard to use. You can not make colour copies. Monitor TFT Thousands of tiny dots called pixels are displayed which then create an image. TFT monitors are very slim and take up less space. TFT monitors are very slim and can easily get knocked over. The best place to use a TFT monitor would be in an office or an ICT room because It would be less stuffy and more nice and comfortable to use. They create very less heat in the room. They can produce dull and low quality images if the monitor is not good. TFT monitors are not made of glass so the screen will not break. The screen can be damaged if it is poked many times. CRT Thousands of tiny dots called pixels are displayed which then create an image. CRT monitors are big and hard to get knocked over. They create a lot of heat and it can get very stuffy in the room. The best place to use a CRT monitor would be in a nursery where there are lots of small children and the chances of getting damaged are very high as the children will be running about. CRT monitors They are very cheap. They take up too much space and they are less stylish. They are hard to be stolen because they are massive. CRT monitors can make a lot of noise. After looking at all the different types of input devices, my work has been affected greatly. I have also tried my best to use the best out of all the output devices in my task. Conclusion Most of the components and other things I used for my tasks were very suitable. For example, a CRT monitor can not be used in an office and a TFT would be the best.

Gang Violence and Biker Gangs :: essays research papers

Gang violence is a major problem in our society today. Gang violence could take place in our neighborhoods and corrupt the young children easily influenced by the violent behavior as well. In the two poems, ?Leather-Jackets, Bikes and Birds? by Robert Davies and ?Street Gang? by H. Webster, the two poets write about gang related issues discussing the ill-mannered bikers who cause these problems to other around them. These poems discuss the violence, death and illegal activity in which a number of people participated in, which like reality is the problematic truth. Both poems are similar because their main intention is gang related violence issues in society today and the distinctive character of the darker side in human nature which causes the harmful consequences of a corrupt humanity. The communication strategies used by both poets are able to grasp the reader?s interest due to the fact that both poems have similar methods of word selection which is diction and are able to describe the psychological minds of aggressive behavior. The poem ?Leather-Jackets, Bikes and Birds? has sentences that describe the type of characteristics gang members have and illustrate their overall presence around others. For example when the poet writes, ?pretending they are looking for trouble demonstrates that the individuals of a gang gather not to enjoy themselves but to cause excitement among themselves for the wrong reasons. Another quote from the poem that describes the psychological mind of gang members is ?because you?ve got to be hard to be a leather-jacket this quote shows that gang members have a mind set that they must be tough, strong and overall powerful to gain their respect. Similarly, the poem ?Street Gang? the description of violence used and the defeat against law is well detailed by the actions caused by aggressive behavior. For example when the poet writes ?the law overthrown describes that the street gang members do not consider the law at hand and make a choic e based on their psychological mind structure and use forceful actions upon their victims. Furthermore, literary devices such as imaginary, alliteration, repetition, oxymoron, onomatopoeia, simile and parallel structure used in both poems displayed a greater understanding towards poetry and defined both as comparable poems. The poems ?Leather-Jackets, Bikes and Birds? and ?Street Gang? are not in rhyme and I believe both poets have formed the poems without rhyme because the tone of seriousness towards this issue was to be brought out to the reader?

Case Study Problems Perrier Essay

1. Identify the key elements of the resistance to change described in this situation. To identify the key elements of the resistanceto change described in this situation, one may make use of the six Change Approaches of Kotter and Schlesinger.[1]The model prevents, minimizes or descreases resistance to change in organizations. According to Kotter and Schlesinger (1979), there are four reasons that why people resist change, three of which are applicable to this case: The Parochial self-interest occurs when people are concerned with the impact of the change on themselves and how it may affect their own interests, rather than considering the effects for the success of the business. The union suggests this of Nestles. Jean-Paul Franc, head of the CGT at Perrier, sees the situation differently. In regard to the company’s plan to cut 15 percent of its workforce he protests: â€Å"Nestle can’t do whatever it likes† He says, â€Å"There are men and women who work here†¦ Morally speaking the water and the gas stored below this ground belong to the whole region.† [2] Misunderstanding which evolves through communication problems or inadequate information. Management of a company could not agree to a decision, perhaps due to a lack of information of the real problem. Relating to this case it is not very clear what is causing the lower production at this plant. According to Nestle CEO Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, â€Å"We have come to the point where the development of the Perrier brand is endangered by the stubbornness of the CGT. Where else according to Jean-Paul Franc, head of the CGT at Perrier as mentioned before, â€Å"In regard to the company’s plan to cut 15 percent of its workforce he protests, â€Å"Nestle can’t do whatever it likes.? He says, â€Å"There are men and women who work here†¦ Morally speaking the water and the gas stored below this ground belong to the whole region.†[3] Different assessments of the situation occurs when employees disagrees on the reasons why the company has to change and on the advantages and disadvantages of the process of change. This applies to the above differences in assessment of the problem and solution by the Nestler’s CEO and the union head. 2. Construct a change management strategy for dealing with this situation. In so doing, identify what approach (es) to managing resistance you recommend and provide a clear justification for your choice. Kotter and Schlesinger set out six change approaches to deal with resistance to change. In the following we make use of four of the approaches: [4] 1. Education and Communication There is a lack of information or inaccurate information and analysis. Instead of discussing directly with the employees, that sales were dropping, the manager used a form of manipulation in form of placing the competition’s bottles water e.g. Badoit Rouge in the factory cafeteria, which further antagonized workers. This action was opposed to the intended motivation. One of the best ways to overcome resistance to change is to educate people about the change effort before change occurs. Up-front communication helps employees to see the change effort. This reduces incorrect rumors concerning the effects of change in the organization. 2. Participation and Involvement This approach is useful when that the initiators do not have all the information they need to design the change and where others have considerable power to resist. This is the case at Perrier, where an identification of the real problem is essential. When using this approach it allows including the employees in the problem definition as well as potential solutions. It encourages open communication. The union and Nestles need to set the same goals. When employees are involved in the change effort, they are more likely agree with the change rather than resist. This approach is likely to lower resistance and those who merely acquiesce to change. 3. Negotiation and Agreement Someone or some group may lose out in a change and where that individual or group has considerable power to resist. This would be effective in dealing with the union at Perrier. This can be done by allowing change resistors to veto elements of change that are threatening. Another way is that change resistors can be offered incentives to leave the company through early buyouts or retirements in order to avoid having to experience the change effort. This approach is appropriate where those resisting change are in a position of power, like the CGT. 4. Explicit and Implicit Coercion This is a last resort approach where speed in change is essential. Managers can explicitly or implicitly force employees into accepting change by making clear that resisting changing can lead to losing jobs, firing, transferring or not promoting employees. Working together with CGT, Nestles can negotiate a projected percentage of increased production or otherwise the suggested number of layoffs (15%) will be required.
